At some point stainless steel will be passé and the appliance
makers will need to find a new finish that people will gush over, since I doubt
Harvest Gold, or Avocado will be making a comeback. I would recommend for regular
people who think Stainless Steel is behind the times to consider Tungsten
Carbide (WC) and for people with bolder tastes Titanium Nitride. Solid Tungsten
Carbide is a normally a deeper gray than steel and is attractive in its own
right, but if the surface is coated via vapor deposit WC is a deep black, as in
it appears to have depth. WC is very, very scratch resistant, and easy to clean. I think
either Tungsten Carbide would be a beautiful and practical kitchen surface.
For those with bolder tastes Titanium Nitride is a rich gold
color, but unlike gold it is very, very scratch resistant, and as compared to
gold. Imagine a gold colored SubZero fridge, matched with a gold colored Wolf
range against a marble counters and backsplash.
