There is a commercial for I believe “Bare Essentials” makeup which claims to be really pure makeup without a lot of impurities. The funny part is that a lot of the impurities with really scary chemical names that they "aren’t using for the sake of purity" are vitamins and other nutrients. Women pay big money to have anti-oxidants (Vitamins C and E) and CoQ-10 added to the makeup, now companies are taking it all out and still get to charge a premium price. This is like skim milk costing more than whole milk, they remove something valuable and then charge more for the privilege. So I thought I would discuss a few other things that women might not know about the stuff they do to themselves.
Remember “natural and pure” doesn’t mean better or even safe. In the old days the white and red pigments used in makeup were derived from natural “pure” sources. The white was lead and red mercury.
Talc is almost never used anymore, instead powders are cornstarch. Why? Real talc powder is a finely ground mineral and is often contaminated with asbestos. Grinding asbestos into very small particles and then making it airborne with a "puff pad" turned out to be not such a good idea.
Makeup isn’t tested on animals anymore since as long as it is made with ingredients that have been previously tested, no new testing is required. If new testing is required the formula is developed and tested 3rd party so the manufacture can claim it didn’t test on animals. The only animals the makeup companies care about have two legs and credit cards.
Things approved for use in lipstick include fiberglass and fish scales. The fiberglass makes microscopic holes in the water tight membrane of the lips so that “moisturizers” can penetrate. The fish scales are edible glitter, fish are opulence and so are women’s lips, and that is why.
Old eye makeup is stew of bacteria, and the most common cause of pink eye in women.
So, don’t buy the expensive stuff, buy cheapish stuff and replace often (every 6 months), and wash your hands well before applying it. If you drop the brush or share it, then just consider it trash. I think everyone knows this, but going blind for great eye lashes is not a good trade.
Self tanner is a dye, which pigments your skin, much like when you get hair dye on yourself. It offers little to no additional protection from the sun a way a real tan does. Tanning beds do not have the natural solar spectrum, which is why they turn people orange. To properly induce melanin production large amounts of violet, blue and green light are required.
Most of the women in the “before and after our product” photographs would look better with any makeup and a decent hair style. If you what to judge, see if the woman has the same haircut and look on her face before and after. If she is sullen and mousy in the before picture but happy and done up in the after, they you are buying the effects of body language not the product.
Women color their checks red since it resembles the flush women have when they are receptive to ummm a “man’s advances”. This it why rouge and immoral behavior are associated.
Speaking of makeup faux pas: A piece of advice to my women readers as a man I would like to say we mostly notice when you wear too much makeup, or you have that weird line on your neck where you change color. The true test of you makeup abilities is when he can’t seem to figure out what is different, but still thinks you look good. You can tell because he will study you, and alter between quizzical and a smile, which for the purpose of this discussion is best thought of as attraction. The function of makeup is not for you to make up a new face, but to make up for a few flaws. Great pun huh? Seriously, the best makeup unless you are going for the “rouge look” or are on TV should nearly invisible.
