Random thoughts of an empty mind

This was written a long time ago like several months ago, but since I am making up for lost time I figured what the hell and decided to put it up.

Well I got no sleep. I went to bed after 3 then at 5:30 the power went out, which set off the fire alarm. It is very hard to sleep with a 140dB siren going off so I got up. At 6 the Fire Department showed up to turn it off, but with no power it was very toasty and the air was still and thick. After an hour long breakfast at McDonald's since no power means no way to cook, the power was back on so I watched a little TV, however it was CSI but I figured it's 7 am how bad can it be?
Then I was really tired so I decided to go back to bed, only to have deeply disturbing dreams. So I lay awake and thought. On the up side I now truly understand E=mc2 it is basically the same equation as f=ma, I know that is weird and a little wrong, but now I truly understand it. (I have to reinvent something to understand it, I can't be taught. I "learned" Algebra in the 7th grade, but it wasn't till college chemistry that I rederived it and actually understood it.)

When you think about it current TV fads are worrisome. As ancient Roman collapsed in on its self the government distracted the people with violence and drama in the Coliseum. Now feeding Christians to lions is taboo but we have "real life hyperdrama" from reality TV and sociopathic levels of violence on CSI and Law Order SVU. All these shows draw huge audiences. What is strange is that I have smelled a "floater" been elbow deep in body, and talked with rape/sexual abusr victims and none of that affected me as much as watching these shows. These shows seem to glorify the most base and evil aspects of humanity, while in theory preaching against it. Let's face it the evil that inspires these shows is real, but I worry that we are creating a generation of people so desensitized to violence and cruelty that people who otherwise would have shunned the darkness in their soul or at least fought it will simply give in and "improve" on what they have witnessed.
It is hard to see this all happen and still abhor censorship. Mean while the world marches on and tackles the "real issues" that are unsolvable and largely meaningless abortion, drugs, evolution, and homosexuality. In the mean time the country is bankrupting itself, not preparing the next generation to lead, oh and dividing itself and fostering hate over those previously mentioned issues. Don't get me wrong we live the greatest country ever conceived, I just worry about it.

Why yes; I do get very philosophical when I am so tired that I can barely function.

What I really love about Catholism, is tangible evil. In their mythology, yes it is mythology since it is largely covered outside the ~60 books of the Bible, the concept that evil walks among us but is not part of us. That is some how comforting to me and well makes for great stories. Calvinism and most Protestant sects made evil inherit in human nature and that smacks of predestination, which when I think about it violates the Bible stated concept of free will. (I have had extensive Bible studies, in fact I have 2 hours a day 5 days a week for 5 years.) I figure GD was the creator, but he is not a micromanager. Don't get me wrong I don't buy Creationism, a creator can simply set the rules and see what happens, so creation could have begun and ended with the inception of the universe. Now if there is a devil, I would bet "he" is not hands off, if you look at society you can see that type of work requires alot of hustle, but over all each "client" doesn't require much face time. Hmm, I think I should move on.

I will end with a thought the study of the difference between the genders might be more successful if it was approached like anthropology. Men and women are fundamentally different, and while I would not say separate species for obvious reasons I would say different cultures. I say this because when I apply male culture to females the responses that result are wrong. I am not saying the female response is wrong I am just saying that in male culture the out comes don't fit the norm. Now before you type me an angry letter about misogynism, I remind you that in anthropology there is no right or wrong only culturally acceptable or not, so in the female culture that is right thing to do, but for the male is sooo bizarre. It is hard for me (but I think less hard than most men find it) for me to understand the female culture. I use to write short stories (no you can't see them) and I can write them so both men and women could became the main character, but it was always a male. I tried and tried to write from the eyes of a female, but it was dismal failure since it seemed contrived. Sure men can write books for women, but from what I know of them they are superficial, the literature that is truly engrossing where you are the character must be written culturally appropriate. I sometimes read women's mystery novels (written by women) since while the plot is obvious the subplots and interaction of the characters teach me about the culture. It is truly fascinating since it is a glimpse of another way of life, but I don't think there is a male cultural equivalent, but since I am part of the culture and accept it without thought so I can't be certain.

Well that is all.
