Getting ADD children to read of their own free will.
Stop giving them fiction books since if the story is uninteresting (or unimportant) they will simply not read it, try non-fiction. If you don’t know what your child is interested in or what level they are at take them to B&N or your local super-bookstore and let them select a couple of topics and start reading. They will quickly figure out what is not boring and what level they are at, this will often be well beyond their expected level which is why they must figure it out for themselves. The library will not work since they don’t have the depth of books required for the initial test period.
Restless in life?
If you think you could be so much more than you are now since you have so many great ideas, etc etc. The first step to actually doing something to improve your life is to stop and take stock. Really think about what you want to accomplish since if you do 5 things at once you will never finish anything, so write them all down. Once you have list consider each on in turn and determine how feasible it is give your current situation, if your goals are to write an epic poem in ancient Greek (and you have never even read the Odyssey and don’t speak ancient Greek) or learn digital photography (and you have a camera and computer) the latter is more likely to get done. Now break the task into small pieces like starting with the cheapest and easiest if possible, remember the goal is to be able to make continuous and measurable progress towards your goal. So, first learn to use your camera to its fullest, then learn how to compose a shot, etc. Now if you are still interested you can go to the next level and invest in Photoshop and classes on digital editing, special lighting, etc, but if it turns out digital photograph wasn’t as great as you thought it would be you still learned something, but didn’t invest so much in it that you feel obligated to stick with it.
